Fence crossing moorland replacing a wall along Nookton Edge
The notion of an 'edge' in such a flat area of featureless moorland is a curious one however that name is used on OS maps for the stretch of ground along the fence line which follows the watershed between the drainage regimes of the Nookton Burn and the Quickcleugh Burn. It's also the county boundary line between Northumberland and County Durham; the boundary stone close to the fence may be to show that, or some other boundary, perhaps one of land ownership. Unusually for a moorland location some wires of the fence are, or have been capable of being electrified - the faded, white notice tells so. There was no power there at the time the image was recorded.
