Drinking fountain, Alum Chine
No longer in use, but marked with a plaque which states that: This drinking fountain was built by Andrew Handyside & Co in the 1880s. The drinking fountain was design number 24 in Handysides 1879 design book for fountains and would have been installed at Alum Chine in the early 20th century. Andrew Handyside was an iron founder. Born in Edinburgh in 1805 he took over the Britannia Foundry in Derby in 1848 and established a firm well known for its fine quality iron work. (The works is pictured in SK3537 : Derby - Handyside Works)
