Dumbarton Rock: fence on the Beak
The Beak is the eastern peak of Dumbarton Rock: see NS4074 : Dumbarton Castle: The Beak from White Tower Crag, a view from the other peak. The prominent building in that picture is the Magazine (NS4074 : Dumbarton Rock: the Magazine / NS4074 : Dumbarton Castle: Magazine and eastern wall), but the same fence can be seen in that picture, beginning directly in front of the Magazine, and heading off to the right.
Visible in the Clyde, in the present picture, is one of several NATO vessels that were taking part in Operation Joint Warrior, an exercise that is held twice-yearly; the picture was taken on the first day of that year's spring operations:
The NATO vessels that passed when I was exploring the Rock on this day were as follows, listed in order; all were heading downriver, in the direction of Faslane (the one in the background of the present picture is the Louise-Marie):
HNoMS Roald Amundsen (F311) — Norway: Fridtjof Nansen-class frigate.
BNS Louise-Marie (F931) — Belgium: Karel Doorman-class frigate.
HNLMS Willemstad (M864) — Netherlands: Alkmaar-class minehunter.
HNLMS Schiedam (M860) — Netherlands: Alkmaar-class minehunter.
BNS Primula (M924) — Belgium: Tripartite-class minehunter.
EML Wambola (A433) — Estonia: Lindormen-class support vessel.
