Dumbarton Castle: entrance to the well-house
Dumbarton Castle: entrance to the well-house
For context, and for further information, see NS3974 : Dumbarton Castle: steps to the well-house, and other pictures linked from there. At the bottom of the descending flight of steps, this grate is on the left.

The well itself has straight sides and a curving roof (the curve is the same as that which can be seen here above the grate). The glint of coins can be seen inside.
