Arnos Grove tube station
The station was designed by architect Charles Holden LinkExternal link and has been described as a significant work of modern architecture. When it opened in September 1932 it was the most northerly station on the first section of the Piccadilly line extension from Finsbury Park to Cockfosters, and was the terminus until services were further extended to Oakwood in March 1933 LinkExternal link .

The station has three tracks and four platforms - as shown in the photo, platforms 2 and 3 are either side of the central track. This is an example of the so-called "Spanish solution" which helps to speed up boarding and alighting LinkExternal link - see also TQ2896 : Cockfosters tube station.

The station was Grade II listed in 1971; in 2011 its status was upgraded to Grade II* LinkExternal link .
