Dumbarton Castle: area west of the Governor's House
The view is similar to NS3974 : Dumbarton Castle: area west of the Governor's House, but from farther back; the southern corner of the Governor's House (NS4074 : Dumbarton Rock: The Governor's House) is in the right foreground.
The first link in the previous paragraph describes some of the walls visible ahead. In the present view, note the small structure that can be seen projecting from the wall at the upper left of the picture. That projecting structure is an old latrine; it is beside the Spur Battery. That battery, not visible from here, was built c.1680; it and the latrine are shown in NS3974 : Dumbarton Castle: the Spur Battery.
