St Oran's Chapel
St Oran's Chapel
12th Century Chapel situated in a small burial ground which from some time between the 9th and 11th Centuries became a royal burial ground with a 16th Century inventory suggesting that 48 Scottish, 8 Norwegian and 4 Irish kings were buried here.

The chapel is the oldest ecclesiastical building in Iona by the 17th Century it had fallen into ruin but was restored in 1957. It was originally grade B listed but the designation was removed in 2016 due to it also being part of the Iona Abbey scheduled monument - see LinkExternal link.

In the background is Iona Abbey - see NM2824 : Iona Abbey.
