Bullocks on Coulsdon Common
Bullocks on Coulsdon Common
These dark brown beasts are Sussex cattle, a strong and heavy breed used for ploughing and other draught work in the counties of Kent, Sussex and Surrey until times when horses had replaced cattle for this purpose in most other parts of England. These cattle are not at all common now, even in these Wealden areas.
