Mystery plant at Crowmarsh Farm
Mystery plant at Crowmarsh Farm
This plant looked quite invasive and was growing strongly along side the barn in Link . It was about 8 feet tall and the flower panicles were nearly a foot long. This shows the maturing seed pods which turn a dark red when ripe. There are some late flowers at the bottom of the picture. It looks as if it's Pokeweed/Phytolacca americana. LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) It appears to be a garden escapee as it was introduced from America in 1768. There is some excellent information here LinkExternal link including medical uses and related research.

(Thanks to Geograph members, Derek and Elaine, who helped in the identification of this plant)
