Pretty Poly!
Pretty Poly!
A striking array of polyethylene mulch at Culscadden Farm. Often the plastic is black or clear but this white material has the effect of filtering the light to reduce weed growth while maintaining humidity and an even growing temperature.
Some plastic film has to be collected and recycled; some is biodegradable and self-destructs within the growing season. The farm here has a dairy herd of around 300 cattle so it is likely that the seeding is something like maize or a similar nutritious crop which can be turned into silage to feed the animals.
