Castles of Munster: Togher, Cork

This was a MacCarthy castle or tower house, built in about 1590; a MacCarthy family crest still exists in the entrance hall dating probably from the castle's occupation in the C19. Various alterations and additions during this occupation resulted in enlarged window openings, diamond shaped chimneys, and more recently a corrugated iron roof that will at least help to preserve the structure.
