Thirlmere Straining Well
This is the start of the aqueduct taking drinking water from Thirlmere to Manchester and built to carry up to 50 million gallons per day. This was an officially sanctioned visit to see the well itself and the hydraulic crane that had been used to remove and replace the filtering screens. The well is now dry with the water piped across the bottom.
