The Foredyke, Bransholme
The Foredyke, Bransholme
The pub at the southwest corner of the North Point Shopping Centre on Hull's Bransholme Estate. The Foredyke is the name of an old stream which was straightened and turned into a land drain between Fairholme and Midmeredales, north of Bransholme. I think the old drain probably turned south-southeast at Foredyke Clough northwest of here and continued through Stoneferry to Drypool (there's a narrow strip of undeveloped land heading that way which possibly marks the course of it). Much of it may have been filled in after the modernization of Hulls sewerage and pumping infrastructure in the late 1950s. The pub itself is surely one in a million; it's not every day you come across a pub named after a drain.
