Charles, King and Martyr Church, Peak Forest
Charles, King and Martyr Church, Peak Forest
This unique and historic church in Peak Forest (High Peak), commemorates the death of King Charles I of England, at the hands of the axeman in front of the banqueting hall, Whitehall. He was declared a Saint at the restoration of the monarchy. Orthodox Churches also declared him a "Passion" Saint. Perrinchef's Royal Martyr ... describes him as "devout and punctilious in the performance of his religious duties", living his life "in the sight and fear of God and with a single eye to His glory".
