As seen from the Great Glen Way Low Route - a dilapidated wooden hut in forest, perched on a steep bank.
Great Glen Way

Scotland's fourth waymarked National Long Distance Walking Route is 73 to 79 miles long (depending on route variation), and follows the Great Glen fault between Fort William and Inverness. First opened in 2002, more scenic route variations were added in 2014.
The Way is certainly pretty, well surfaced and waymarked, and interesting in terms of the canal history. But long stretches of the path are amongst coniferous forestry or by the side of the Caledonian Canal, and tend to be somewhat monotonous. Only the higher route alternatives give long views and a better sense of the Highlands.
