SO9417 : Old quarry on Leckhampton hill

taken 8 years ago, near to Ullenwood, Gloucestershire, England

Old quarry on Leckhampton hill
Old quarry on Leckhampton hill
The local Jurassic limestone was quarried here up until the late 1920s, much of the stone being transported via tramway and inclined plane to the nearby town of Cheltenham. Nowadays the site is worth a visit for the scenery, the industrial archaeology and the calcareous flora which my ecologist wife tells me is pretty special.
