Portland Breakwater
Portland Breakwater
Naval ship anchored inside Portland Harbour, near the Outer Breakwater; a yacht is sailing on the other side of the breakwater, outside the harbour.

Portland Harbour is sheltered by four breakwaters; two southern and two northern. These have a total length of 2.84 miles and enclose approximately 520 hectares (1,300 acres) of water. The initial southern breakwaters were built between 1849 and 1872, whilst the two northern breakwaters were added between 1893 and 1906 to completely enclose the harbour.
