The Breakwater Fort, Portland Harbour
The Portland Breakwater Fort is a 19th-century fort, built 1868-1875 to defend the then-new harbour and Royal Navy institutions on the Portland Island. It is located on the outer breakwater of Portland Harbour.

During World War II, the fort was used as an examination battery. It was reduced to care and maintenance by 1945 and abandoned in 1956. It was designated as a Grade II Listed building in 1978 (List Entry Number: 1280475 LinkExternal link Heritage Gateway) but the fort remains derelict and is not open to the public. SY7076 : Portland Breakwater Lighthouse stands opposite, on the next section of breakwater.
