Water from the River Ribble is channelled down an Archimedean screw turbine to generate electricity. The screw is beneath the sloping screens - (photo Link ).
The first electricity was generated in 2010. The output supplies apartments in the adjacent former mill building (photo Link ), and the remainder is fed into the National Grid. Money earned is distributed to local community projects.
Settle Hydro has an excellent website with lots of information LinkExternal link .
