The Glebe
The Glebe
House in Oakley Road. Built in 1928 for Richmal Crompton, author of the Just William books, it was her home from that year until 1954, having moved here from her previous house in Cherry Orchard Road (see TQ4265 : Cherry Orchard Road). A blue plaque by the door (hidden by the car) commemorates her residence here. In 1954 she moved to Beechworth near Chislehurst (see TQ4568 : Beechworth).
