The ornate pedestal may not be original but it is in keeping with the property. 34 Faringdon Road is one of the many stone cottages that form part of the historic Railway Village, built at the behest of I K Brunel in the mid-19th century to house workers employed at the nearby Great Western Railway factory which closed in 1986 to be given a new life as a shopping mall. 34 Faringdon Road has been returned to largely original condition and is now open occasionally as a small museum.
