Polo Tower demolition
Polo Tower demolition
Part of the old Frontierland fairground, which is due to be redeveloped. The Polo Tower has stood in isolation, due to its use as a mobile phone base station. This is no longer required, so the tower is being demolished. The mint-shaped lift carriage was removed several years ago.
Although the tower was bolted together, the bolts are assumed to be badly corroded, and the lifting lugs have not been inspected.
Hence, the tower is being cut into sections. Each section will be flattened using a mechanical shovel before being transported away for scrap.
In the photo, the top section of the tower is about to be rigged to the crane hoist, which will enable that section to be cut and removed.
See SD4264 : Polo Tower demolition for a closer view of the top of the tower. See SD4264 : Polo Tower demolition for a view in the opposite direction after removal of the top section.
