Allendale Town Co-Op
Allendale Co-operative Society was established in 1874, and like all Co-ops is owned by its members, most of whom live in the Allen Valleys. Although a member of the wider Co-operative Movement, Allendale Co-op is not a part of the nationwide Co-operative Group but is owned and run by local residents. The current store was re-built in 1990 on the site of the former Co-op drapery and green-grocery shop which was erected in 1936.
A gem in the countryside, Allendale Co-op stands bold,
With a reputation wide and a heart of gold!

The side window is home to an artist's impression of the surrounding area, commissioned by Allendale Co-op in 1990. Painted by Jill Smith, formerly of High Greenley Cleugh, Ninebanks, the mural was used as a back-drop to the old delicassent counter and was moved to the window in 2014.
