Chatterley Whitfield Colliery
Chatterley Whitfield Colliery
A view over the security fence that shows the relative dereliction beyond. This is a scheduled ancient monument and once was a museum but is now waiting better days and tends to be open in part only on the annual Heritage Open Days. I remember going underground here when it was a museum and Wolstanton Colliery's pumps kept it dry. The shaft was about 700' and the trip was conducted by a former miner. You had to have a helmet, lamp and self rescuer and were given a 'tally' to hand to the banksman.
