Lynton and Barnstaple Railway – Bridge Inscription
Lynton and Barnstaple Railway – Bridge Inscription
Inscription on the Barnstaple side wall of Bridge 35 “Button Hill Bridge”. The 7.70 indicates the bridge is 7 miles and 70 chains from the start of the line at Barnstaple. The 35 is the bridge number (there were 80 in all). Unsure what the ‘_EZ’ means
The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway was a 19 mile long narrow gauge railway, which ran across the stunning Exmoor landscape, from 1898, until its closure in 1935. In 2004, after many years of hard work and negotiation, a small section was re-opened. One of the world’s most famous little railways, you can read more of the exciting plans for the coming years at LinkExternal link
