Albion Dockyard
Albion Dockyard
Opened in 1820 by shipbuilders Hillhouse & Son & Company on the banks of the Floating Harbour that had opened in 1809. The first vessel launched was the 446t West Indiaman 'Weare'. David Abels of Abels Shipbuilders Ltd retired in 2016 following completion of the last vessel 'Forth Hope' and surrendered the lease on the dock. As the last major dry dock in the basin it is hoped that the yard can be retained as a maintenance and repair facility.
