Leyden Monument, Denholm
Leyden Monument, Denholm
John Leyden, born at Denholm 8th September 1775, died at Batavia 28th August 1811.
The monument, erected in 1861 by public subscription, is to the memory of John Leyden, the poet and oriental scholar. The stone base is all that now remains of the old mercat cross which is thought to have stood somewhere near this spot.
