Upper Lumsdale
Upper Lumsdale
This narrow road with very pleasant houses is the top way into Lumsdale. This is an archaeological site of great importance. In a short steep valley, there are approximately FIVE now derelict water powered mills. One has been on the site since medieval times the others from the late 1770's. They are now cared for by the Arkwright Trust and when we visited much work was being carried out by SPAB (the Society for Preserving Ancient Buildings) begun by William Morris 140 years ago.
