Love locks on Pero's Bridge
Pero's Bridge spans St Augustine's Reach near Bristol Harbour, and is also known as the Horned Bridge or Shrek's Bridge, owing to its unusual design which features horn like structures which act as counterweights for the lifting centre section of the bridge. Like all bridges these days, this one is festooned with padlocks intending to symbolise a love which may never be rent asunder, at least not by anyone without a hi vis jacket and a cordless angle grinder. The bridge is named after Pero Jones, who arrived in Bristol as a slave to local merchant John Pinney in 1783.
