Old Rayne Primary School
The school roll in 2016-17 was 46 pupils, a relatively healthy number. The site was apparently once occupied by a 'castle' belonging to John Barbour (see: LinkExternal link ), the "Chaucer of Scotland", who wrote the epic late-medieval poem 'The Brus': LinkExternal link , which includes the famous line "Freedom is a noble thing!"
