The Botanic Cottage
Now completed and in use for various teaching and community activities related to plants and horticulture.
Botanic Cottage, Edinburgh
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh was originally situated on Leith Walk, from 1763-1823, and the Gardener's house, designed by Robert Adam and James Craig, stood at the entrance. When the RBGE moved to Inverleith the house was left, became a private home and was abandoned in the early 2000s and threatened with demolition. It was saved by a community campaign and is being re-erected in the Demonstration Garden and will be used as community and education hub for the garden. Work started in early 2014 and is expected to be officially opened in spring 2016.
