River Humber, Victoria Pier
Prior to the opening of the Humber Bridge in 1981, a ferry provided access to the opposite bank of the River Humber. The earliest ferries crossed at Hessle but a ferry from Hull was established in 1315. By the seventeenth century, this ferry ran from the Horse Staith at the mouth of the old harbour before the pier was built.
