Hyde Chapel Organ
Hyde Chapel Organ
The organ case at the rear of Hyde Chapel is part of the original design of the building. It is not connected to the present organ and is now merely a decorative screen. The case is meant to represent a 12th century style and mirrors the look of monastic furnishings of the period. It may be based on a screen at Cartmel Priory. The pipes on view were last heard in 1869.

As the brass plaque on the side records:
The restoration of this organ case as part of the
Tercentenary Celebrations
was funded by the Congregation and friends,
with thanks to:
Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund
East Cheshire Union
Hyde Chapel Benevolent Fund
Hyde Chapel Trustees
Mayor of Hyde Trust
Tameside MBC
Provincial Grand Lodge of
Mark Master Masons of Cheshire.

Hyde Chapel
The history of Hyde (Unitarian) Chapel goes back to before 1708, when the congregation built the first Christian place of worship in Hyde. A new church replaced the former building in 1846. This second chapel is Grade II listed LinkExternal link and its high steeple is a noted landmark. More information at LinkExternal link
