The Market Cross, Howden
The Market Cross, Howden
This market cross, in Howden Market Place, is not as old as it looks. Although the base is probably mediŠval, the shaft and cross itself were made as recently as 1909. A plaque (SE7428 : Plaque on Howden Market Cross) affixed to the shaft states that "This cross was erected and presented to the town of Howden by Jane, widow of Thomas Sinclair Clark Esq of Knedlington Manor, May 27th 1909".

It is Grade II-listed (List entry Number: 1160586 LinkExternal link Historic England).
