The roof of the Baron's Hall, Penshurst Place
Penshurst Place dates from 1341 and the Baron's Hall dating from that time is a wonderful example of medieval architecture. It was the birthplace of the Elizabethan poet, courtier and soldier, Sir Philip Sidney. The original house is one of the most complete examples of 14th-century domestic architecture in England still in its original location. This is the original roof of the Baron's Hall with figures supporting it in various grimacing poses - rumoured to be what the craftsmen thought about the family at the time!
