The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene, Whitgift
The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene, Whitgift
St Mary Magdalene Parish Church, Whitgift. C12 origins. Unusual clock face with Roman numerals for 13 at the 12 0'clock position. Was mentioned by Lord Haw Haw in a WW2 propaganda broadcast. He bragged that German bombers would fly so low they would "be able to see the thirteenth hand of the Whitgift church clock". (Ref Yorkshire Post online 19th October 2012)
