The Crown, 29 Market Hill, Framlington
Grade II Listed mid 16th century inn with late 17th century alterations. It was reputably built as a lodging for Mary Tudor's knights when she visited Framlingham Castle in 1554. An 1865 reference describe it as 'commercial hotel and posting house and it has also been used as a corn exchange'. In 1844 Petty Sessional Courts were held at the Crown Inn alternate Fridays and in 1891 'Freemasons meet at the Crown Hotel on Wednesday nearest the full moon'. The central doorway, previously the carriageway through to Fore Street, was not enclosed until 1952.
