Coquet Island
Coquet Island
A small island off Amble, home to about 100 pairs of Roseate Terns (almost all of the UK breeding population) along with larger numbers of Common, Arctic and Sandwich Terns. There are also over ten thousand puffins, which help boost the demand for the daily boat trips from Amble. Landings are strictly prohibited at any time of year due to the fragile Puffin burrows (and sensitive nesting birds in summer). the island is owned by the duke of Northumberland and managed by the RSPB, with the boat trips run independently.
