Clifford's Tower, a castle keep, rebuilt 1245 to 1315. The present forebuilding reconstructed circa 1642. Last garrisoned 1642 to 1684, when gutted by an explosion. Restorations in 1902, 1915 and 1936. Above the doorway, a halved panel is carved in low relief with Royal Arms of Charles II above the arms of Henry Clifford, 8th Earl of Cumberland.
