Freight train waiting to pass Hoo Junction
Freight train waiting to pass Hoo Junction
The line from Gravesend to Strood opened in 1845 and still has a regular service, including Javelins on their way to and from St Pancras International. Passenger trains also ran on the line which branches off to the east here between 1882 to 1961. The single line branch is still in use by regular container trains to and from Thamesport on the Isle of Grain, as well as Grain and Brett's Aggregates near Cliffe. Hoo Junction, where the two lines diverge is just behind where I am standing - see LinkExternal link

The view is from the foot crossing which continues from Queen's Farm Road across the line to Shorne Marshes. A freight train awaits a westbound freight train to clear the single line to Grain before it can proceed eastwards.
