Scented mayweed (Matricaria recutita)
Scented mayweed > LinkExternal link is known to prefer nitrogenous soils that are poor in lime and it is considered to be an indicator of loam. It is a common weed of cereals and other arable crops. The plant is documented to have been cultivated as early as the Neolithic period. Internationally, it is grown as a medicinal and industrial crop. Extracts have been used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries, and for the control of pests. The plant is a favourite of ladybirds.
