This "Laconicum" forms part of the bathhouse which served the Roman Fort of Mediobogdum, now known as Hardknott Castle. The bathhouse is situated outside the walls of the main fort a little way to the southeast. This circular sauna was separate from the rest of the NY2101 : Hardknott Castle Roman Fort - Bathhouse and was supplied with its heat from its own furnace via a flue system.
