This break in the walls around Hardknott Castle Roman Fort is the southeastern gateway and leads via a path to the NY2101 : Hardknott Castle Roman Fort - Bathhouse. Beyond, wiggling up the hillside, can be seen the Hardknott Pass - being one of England's more interesting roads it is driven mostly for fun rather than for access to anywhere !
