A small quarry was worked at the base of Balephetrish Hill between 1791 and 1794 to exploit a seam of beautiful red-green Tiree marble. The Duke of Argyll used this marble for the chimney pieces of the Billiard Room in Inveraray Castle NN0909 : Inveraray Castle and gardens
