The Church of St Mary, Avington
The Church of St Mary, Avington
The Anglican village church at Avington, dedicated to St Mary, was founded by Margaret, Marchioness of Carnarvon and was constructed between 1768 and 1771, of brick with Portland stone dressings, old plain tile roof and a three-stage west tower. It is something of a rarity; an unrestored red-bricked Georgian church and as such, merits its designation as a Grade I listed building (List entry Number: 1350483 LinkExternal link Historic England). The exterior Georgian architecture and crenellated tower echo the style of nearby Avington Park.
