Erratic boulder park
Erratic boulder park
A stockpile of large, glacial-erratic boulders collected from tills forming overburden removed before extraction of slates. Great interest attaches to these boulders which are deeply striated from their entrainment in the base of a local glacier, because they are from strata which overlie the Llanberis Slates forming the productive areas of the quarries. The Bronllwyd Grits, as they are known, are sandstones and conglomerates which contain large pieces of the slate formation, and thus represent a major change in the pattern of quiescent sedimentation which characterised the preceding period.
