Murray's Monument, north-east of Newton Stewart
Murray’s Monument was erected in 1835 in memory of Alexander Murray (1775-1813), a local shepherd boy who later became Professor of Oriental Languages at Edinburgh University. The granite obelisk monument stands on top a small steep hill just to the north of the A712, Newton Stewart to New Galloway road, and is a very prominent landmark when travelling along the road. It is a Category C listed building. LinkExternal link
