On Torksey Viaduct
On Torksey Viaduct
The blue plaque on the wall reads "This viaduct, designed by Sir John Fowler and completed in 1849, carried the main line of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway over the River Trent. The main span over the river was modified in 1897 to improve its strength. The railway closed in 1959 and the viaduct is now Grade II* listed. The viaduct was restored, and opened to the public, in 2016."
