Entrance to the Old Railway Station, Govilon
The former Govilon railway station is now a private residence named The Old Railway Station. The adjacent former railway on the left is now part of National Cycle Network Route 46. A nearby information board records that Govilon station was the first to be completed on the Merthyr, Tredegar and Abergavenny Railway which opened in 1862. The line climbed 1,000 feet on its eight mile course from Abergavenny to Merthyr. Its steepest gradient was the 1 in 34 near Govilon Wharf. In its heyday the station had seven staff. The station was at its busiest when many villagers travelled by train to Abergavenny Market.

Govilon station closed when passenger services on the Abergavenny to Merthyr line ended in early January 1958.
