Beetles on Cock's foot grass (Dactylis glomerata)
Cock's-foot, also known as orchard grass and cat grass, is an abundant, tussocky grass of meadows, woodland rides and cultivated ground, flowering between May and July. Its rounded flower heads on long stalks give the impression of a bird's foot, hence the common name. Its leaves have very sharp edges, giving a nasty cut if pulled the wrong way. See > LinkExternal link for a wider view. Common red soldier beetles (Rhagonycha fulva) can be seen feeding on it.
